Outstanding Achievement Award, 2015 Prof. Dr. Satyendra Mohon Sen MBBS, MS
An alumnus of Ballygunge Govt. High School and Presidency College, Dr. Sen obtained his MBBS degree from Nil Ratan Sarkar Medical College in 1957. He joined the State Health Services in 1960 and was posted as a Senior House Surgeon in the Department of Surgery at his alma mater, NRS Medical College. In 1961, there was a vacancy in the Anatomy Department and his name was recommended for the post. He accepted it and thus started on his journey as a Professor of Anatomy which continues even today.
Around the same time, he started his post graduation and completed it in 1965.
For the next 33 years, Dr. Sen was posted in Calcutta Medical College, R G Kar Medical College, Bankura Sammilani Medical College till his retirement in 1994 from National Medical College as Professor and Head of the Dept. of Anatomy.
During this time, he was simultaneously entrusted to teach Anatomy to BDS students of Dr. B R Ahmed Dental College and also to students of Homeopathy Medical College, Kolkata.
Immediately after his retirement, he was offered the post of Guest Lecturer in Anatomy at B C Roy Institute of Post Graduate Medicine of Calcutta University.
In 1997, he took up the challenge of establishing from scratch the Anatomy department of the newly established Nepal Medical College where he joined as Professor and Head of Department.
In his 50 years of teaching, he has earned for himself tremendous respect and love from all his students.
Presently he is teaching Anatomy to students of Institute of Radiology and Medical Imaging.
He is also actively associated with Vidyasagar Charitable Society, where he treats patients from disadvantaged strata with utmost care and sympathy and has created a remarkable reputation among the poor and down-trodden of his locality.
Dr. Sen is currently the president of the Anatomical Society of India, West Bengal Chapter.
